PREESENTATION OF THE LINOCUT PORTFOLIO OF THE POLITICAL SCHOOL FOR ARTISTS AND BENEFIT SOCIAL GATHERING
Monday, September 30, at 7 PM
KLET, Ilica 73
You are welcome to the presentation of the linocut portfolio of the Political School for Artists, inspired by the motifs of the poem ‘Counterpoint’ by the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, after which you are invited to stay for a benefit gathering!
This portfolio was created during the linocut workshop that took place last June in Topusko, within the seventh edition of the Political School for Artists (and all interested). The workshop was led by artists Mirjana Radovanović and Miloš Miletić from Belgrade association KURS, and organized by the curatorial collective BLOK and the Serb National Council (SNV) Culture Department. Our wish was to jointly mark the 80th anniversary of the First Congress of Cultural Workers of Croatia, which took place in Topusko in June 1944, gathering artists and cultural workers who took part in the antifascist struggle.
At the time of the workshop, nine months had passed since the beginning of the Gaza genocide. We held lectures and talks on Palestine, as well as expressed our support during the demonstration organized by Initiative for a Free Palestine. In addition, we agreed that our linocuts would be based on verses by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, and that we would use them to build up on solidarity.
We transposed the graphics and Darwish’s poem into a fanzine and t-shirts, which we will present on September 30th, at 7 PM, and give them away in exchange for solidary donations. The funds raised will be then forwarded to the Initiative for a Free Palestine.
Please, join us!
The event is organized by: Serb National Council (SNV) Culture Department, BLOK - Lokalna baza za osvježavanje kulture, SMAK Press, and Initiative for a Free Palestine.
