AMUSEMENT WITH ARCHIVES – THE SECOND LIFE OF STORED THINGS
Collage and scannerography workshop with found and brought archival materials
June 29 and 30, 2024 (Saturday and Sunday) from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Nova BAZA, Nova cesta 66
What happens with things when we carefully archive them, protect them, and seemingly isolate them from the passing of time? Can different items, stored in private archives of family drawers and photo albums, or within big archive systems of institutions, be threaded back into associative and emotional tissue of everyday life they once belonged to? What metamorphoses happen along the way? How do objects from the past shape the present and the future?
A two-day workshop ’’Amusement with archives – the second life of stored things’’ will try to give answers to these questions. The Trešnjevka Neighborhood Museum online archive will serve as a starting point for the workshop participants exploring the neighborhood history. By combining visual materials from the archive using collage and scannerography (scanner manipulation technique), we will try to build and upgrade the narrative related to archival material. Visuals created in this process will then be reshaped with a DIY method and used in postcards, sew-on patches, stickers, and other items, which will be distributed in the neighborhood by the workshop participants and Baza’s visitors.
The workshop is free of charge. Previous knowledge is not required. Participants need to bring a phone with a charged battery. They will work in groups, and, thanks to the Upciklići association, we have a sufficient number of computers at our disposal. The number of participants is limited and two-day participation is mandatory. In order to sign up for the workshop, those who are interested should send an application with the subject ‘’Workshop applications 2024’’ containing the basic information – age, profession, and personal interests. Workshop will be held in BAZA (Nova cesta 66) on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. For any additional questions please contact us at blok@blok.hr.
