APPLAUSE DOESN’T PAY THE RENT: A YOUTH EDUCATION ON WORKERS’ RIGHTS IN CULTURE

Large_insta

Are you about to complete your academic studies or working in the arts and culture sector, and are wondering how much longer you will be offered only poorly paid gigs?

Do you write, photograph, dance, or design for free, or to “gain experience” and can’t see the end of it? Have you had enough of playing music for a tepid beer and travel allowance? Do you often hear or think that you do art “out of love” and thus it is less important that you are poorly paid? Are you interested in how artists and cultural workers can organize themselves and win better working conditions?

APPLY FOR A FREE EDUCATION ON WORKERS’ RIGHTS INTENDED FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN ARTS AND CULTURE!

The education is intended for persons who are performing their first jobs in the arts and culture sector (any discipline) or are finishing their studies at one of art acdemies or departments related to art and culture (art history, languages, literature, architecture, information science, journalism, etc.). The aim of the education is to offer knowledge on the relationship between art and work, historical and contemporary workers’ struggles, specificity of precarious work, and the existing tools for protection of workers’ rights in arts and culture, as well directly empower participants to negotiate better working conditions for themselves. The education will comprise lectures, joint discussions, and a psychodrama workshop.

The program will be held at the premises of The Network of Antifascist Women of Zagreb (MAZ), throughout November, FROM 4 PM UNTIL 8 PM on the following dates:

November 9 - 10

November 16 - 17

November 28

Please send your application to BLOK@BLOK.HR (subject: Applications for Applause) by OCTOBER 23

The application should contain: name and last name, date of birth, education (formal and informal), a short motivational letter (up to 3.000 characters), and a short CV. Previous knowledge on these topics is not a precondition or an advantage.
